Custom furniture doesn't have to be complicated. Here's the whole process — and nothing gets built until you've approved the design.

First conversation
We start with what you have in mind — the piece, the space, roughly the budget. We share what we’d suggest, flag anything worth rethinking, and answer your questions. It’s free, and there’s no obligation.

Design
Together we settle the details: the blackwood, the finish, the hardware, the proportions and edge profiles. We refine it until it’s exactly right on paper.

Quote and approval
You get a clear quote with no hidden costs — materials, work, and an honest timeline. Nothing is built until you’ve approved both the design and the price.

Building
We hand-pick the timber and build with traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery, checking the work at every stage and finishing by hand. Most pieces take four to eight weeks.

Delivery or collection
Collect from the workshop in Brackenfell at no charge, or we deliver anywhere in South Africa with transport quoted up front. We’ll set it up and leave you with care notes.
- How long does it take?
- Most pieces take six to ten weeks start to finish. Simpler work can be quicker; more involved designs take longer. We give you a real timeline once we’ve talked, and we don’t start building until you’ve approved the design.
- Is custom furniture expensive?
- Less than you’d think. We don’t carry showroom overhead, so you’re paying for good wood and skilled work rather than rent and markups. It often costs about the same as furniture-store pieces — and it actually lasts.
- Can I see my piece while it’s being made?
- We don’t do production viewings, since each piece is built to your approved design in the workshop. We do send progress updates so you’re never in the dark.
- What if I’m not sure exactly what I want?
- That’s normal, and it’s what the first conversation is for. We ask the right questions, show you options, and help you land on something you’ll be happy with.
- Do you deliver nationwide?
- Yes — we deliver across South Africa. You can also collect from the Brackenfell workshop free of charge. Where delivery is needed, transport depends on your location and is included in your quote up front.
- Do you offer a warranty?
- No formal warranty. Our furniture is solid blackwood, joined the traditional way to last for generations, and made to order with real care. We’d rather build things well enough not to need a warranty — and we’re here if they ever do.
